Summer is almost over (at least for many of us in the U.S.). Labor Day is looming on the horizon, the official/unofficial end of summer vacation.
But the last few shimmering days of August are still here, and I’m relishing them for as long as I can. Yes, I know I should be desperate for my kids to be back in school, but summer’s end is always a little sad for me (even if my kids are starting to get on my nerves).
Summer vacation is one of those magical spaces where anything can happen, where the possibilities are endless and the ordinary world becomes a little less ordinary. Trips to the beach and backyard camp-outs take on the aura of something greater.
I’ve always felt that summer vacation was a chance to live out my dreams for adventure. The freedom of summer is like the freedom of Bilbo stepping out his front door to journey with Gandalf and the dwarves.
The promise of summer means there’s no telling where you’ll end up.
Of course, the other story of summer is that by the end, all the promise and possibilities of June feel a little deflated and disappointed by August. The endless possibilities are the hope of summer, but by August, reality has set in. It doesn’t mean summer wasn’t great, but there’s often that feeling of so much left undone.
I want one more adventure. One more epic quest. When the end of August comes, I wish I could go back to the hopes and possibilities of June.
If you’re like me and wish the summer could rewind itself and begin again, if you wish you could relish the promises of summer for a little while longer, then stay tuned for a really cool announcement in the next couple of weeks.
I have something on the horizon that I’m hoping will keep summer’s end at bay, even if only in the pages of a book…
This month’s newsletter is rather short, but that’s because you’ll be getting an extra email from me next month announcing my really cool news. I think you’ll love it, but I don’t want to spoil anything yet. Don’t be surprised when you get another email from me in a couple of weeks.
Stay tuned!
